Way to go Billy!

this isn't a jw experience, but for those of you that have been following my life, i thought i'd have a drink and share this strange event in my post-jw life.. for you wonderful newbies, you can catch up on highlights of my story in the few threads i've started here.
i'm finishing the junior year of my engineering degree and the classes are hard as hell.
i used to be among the smartest students in the room until i hit the 300 level university courses.
Way to go Billy!

soooo i fired up the interwebs to come looking for the date of the memorial, as a dear friend who stood by me through those crazy and sadly wasted years in dub-dumb mentioned she had seen a still faithful member at the library... she said he invited her to "the world wide memorial" .... and i was pretty sure that there had been a full moon yada yada and the memorial had come and gone.... .
i ended up coming back here to verify and realized she must have been asked to that lame ass event where "the same talk is given from every platform" and ooooh how fired up can you be about virtually nothing?
anyway, nice to see the place is still rockin' and that there is a continuity of personnel (that means old timers!
Thanks for stopping in!
It's always great to hear about how others are embracing life post-JW.
All the best to you and yours.

For those who wish to donate anonymously will you set up a PO Box address so that a money order can be sent? I remember when I was a paranoid, still-serving elder having to use a sympathetic co-worker to order Barbara Anderson's CD.
Also, assuming you do get a PO Box, should money orders be made out to AAWA?
Finally, have you considered structuring AAWA, or perhaps a spin-off branch of it, so that donations could be tax deductible?

i was think about getting reinstated, and then do a fade right after because of family ties..
Here's a quote that most elders here will remember from KM schools:
"The degree of discipline should be commensurate with the degree of deviation."
In congos I've seen in Northern California that translates to what several have already stated.
3 months minimum (and very rare).
6 months-1 year is typical for run of the mill porneia.
Sky's the limit if you were an elder who was repeatedly deceitful with the BOE.
A local BOE let a DFed former elder hang out to dry for SEVEN YEARS before they finally let him back in.
The former elder had numerous affairs on his JW wife and lied about it for years. Hence, the seven year smack down.

anyone had any experience of a successful appeal against a disfellowship?
a friend of mine feels he has been dfd unjustifiably & is considering an appeal.
he probably has something of a case - the jc was a total shambles - but i'm very dubious that he has any likelihood of success.. my only experience of a successful appeal is when elders in a neighbouring congregation were appointed by the co & overturned a df in our congregation a few years ago.
Terry's points are well made.
Your friend has 7 days from the original JC before the DF is announced. During that time your friend can tell the elders that he wants to appeal. Some more fairly local elders, probably from a neighboring congregation, will handle the appeal. If your friend's "presentation" is perfect, he's 100% repentant and/or denies the charge and they don't have good enough evidence, he might prevail. Most of the time, local appeals don't work though. The JC that ordered the DF, will likely be involved in selecting who the appeal committee will be. In that process, they will color the appeal committee's opinion ahead of time.
I am aware of a DFing that was "rescinded". The person was announced as DFed and then began written correspondence with the Branch. It took several months, but eventually the branch told the elders to announce that the "Disfellowhipping of Joe Blow has been rescinded".
Oh to have a video of all the WTF?!? looks on the congo's faces.

(pm me if you want more details)
as most suspected, the wts filed their brief, at least it looks that way..... http://appellatecases.courtinfo.ca.gov/search/case/dockets.cfm?dist=1&doc_id=2025979&doc_no=a136641.
it also notes aob in excess of word count limit.. wonder if they did that to buy more time?.
Any guesses on how long before the substance of WT's brief will become public knowledge?
(I don't see going to the court and paying for a copy in my near future.)

penitants from all over the world will reenact the crucifixion scene with some literally being nailed to a cross.
others will walk on their knees bleeding, holding candles, saying prayers.
in thousands of churches around the world the mel gibsonish scene of a pulverized jesus will pull at the emotions of christians.. as jws we always saw this rather bloodless sanitary nordic looking jesus to deal with but within the catholic and protestant churches this is their week to go full on corporal.. what do you suppose the fascination is with the crucifixion..
For the English speaking Christians out there, I think the name of the day would make a little more sense if it was changed to "Holy Friday" as it is in Romance Languages or "Sorrowful or Suffering Friday" as it is in German.

if doctrinal explanations are missing from the article, it is because they are also missing from the magazine.. i would like to give my thanks again to my source for supplying me with the magazine article weeks ahead of its scheduled release.
it showed remarkable courage, because risks were taken.
